The pickaxe is one of the main tools of the game. They are used to mine earth, stone, minerals and other blocks. You start with a copper pickaxe. When standing still, you have a pickaxe range of 4 blocks (two above, two below) from the player, and when facing a wall, you have a pickaxe range of four blocks in front of it. Although when we have better picks, the range we can pick improves. With the Iron Pick we have three blocks above and below and so on and so on. Drills belong to this group as well, and the hammer axe.

Hammers are tools used to interact (generally, to destroy) with objects that are not solid blocks, such as the Crystal Heart, Orb of Shadows, Wallpapers or objects and furniture such as the table, ovens, etc.

You can obtain many different types of minerals in 1 world, but that does not necessarily mean that you can make all minerals reproduce naturally. There are certain guidelines that you can access in a given world. Here is a list that explains what minerals you can have / what minerals you cannot get.

When the world is generated, it has a 50/50 chance of generating those minerals. That means that you may not get all the same minerals in a world twice, but it can happen!

When you create a world, you can choose between 2 different world evils (unless the world is large. It won’t let me choose). They are Corruption and Crimson. Each has its own biome specific minerals. You can’t have both at the same time because you can’t get both biomes (unless you create one artificially).

Hard mode minerals are minerals that cannot appear until you have defeated the Wall of Flesh. You obtain these minerals by breaking demonic / crimson altars with the Pwnhammer, or by obtaining the minerals / bars from the fishing boxes after entering hard mode.

Not all picks can mine the same blocks. The speed at which they do so and the “hardest” block they can mine depends on their peak power. The time of use is not related to this section, as the mining speed is taken into account to determine the speed at which it is mined.
